Output Insights:

Principal photography began shooting in August 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia as well as at Hong Kong’s Cultural Center where some in city shots were filmed. Pearl’s construction is based on Chinese legends of a twisting dragon holding a pearl, which integrates cultural and innovative architectural design. Director Rawson Marshall Thurber worked extensively with noted designer Adrian Smith to make sure the engineering imagination was present in the depiction of the skyscraper.

Musical score:

The score for the film was conducted by Steve Jablonsky, who seamlessly blended traditional orchestral and modern electronic elements for maximum appeal to the suspense and emotions within the story. The album was made by Milan Records and the credits track and the soundtrack were sung by Jamie N Commons with the song Walls, which expresses the sentiment of the movie.

Marketing:

“Skyscraper” was released in theaters in China on July 1, 2018, and in the United States on July 13, 2018. The film was produced with a budget of approximately $125–129 million and had a box office total of roughly $304.9 million. Critics were divided on their opinions, although it performed well commercially.

Dwayne Johnson’s phenomenal performance and the film’s action sequences were prominent, however, critics noted the use of action classics, such as “Die Hard” and “The Towering Inferno,” as references that depicts the film’s lack of originality. The film’s Metascore is 51, suggesting the reviews are average.

Cultural Impact:

The film ‘Skyscraper’ introduced an atypical action hero, hence expanding the scope of representation in the action genre. The film’s central message revolves around family, courage, and determination, which has universal appeal. Its concept of a giant skyscraper in Hong Kong exemplifies the architectural wonders of this city and its prominence in the world.

Conclusion:

Dwayne Johnson’s imposing performance is blended with warm sentimentalism that defines a loving father grappling with impossible odds in battling for his family’s affection, making ‘Skyscraper’ a movie that cleverly mixes brutal action with emotion. The film does follow the themes of previously produced action movies, however, it provides a distinct view because of its setting and character relationships. For audiences wanting action together with sentimentality, ‘Skyscraper’ is a perfect example of a fierce defender of his family.
