Carry-On

“Carry-On,” a film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, has become available on Netflix, and makes its debut on December 13, 2024. The film revolves around a thrilling action packed plot often seen in the works of Jaume like “Jungle Cruise” and “The Shallows” proving that “Carry-On” sits comfortably amongst such claims.

Synopsis

While ‘Carry-On’ progresses we are strategically introduced to Christmas Eve at LAX and how it plays a pivotal role in the story told, and while this is happening Ethan Kopek who serves as a TSA agent gets played by Taron Egerton. In this dangerous game of risk a blank cheque blackmail is Kevin Bateman, who is a mysterious traveler in the film asking Kopek to let a dangerous item go through customs. If Kopek does not comply, his partner Nora (Sofia Carson) who is pregnant stays in danger.

No interpersonal conflict or professional risk arises when carrying on a crime until Kopek reaches a point when he throws the risk indicator in the air and it becomes a game of cat and mouse at risky stakes. The tease is built perfectly throughout except the tease of the final scene where the strength and intelligence of Ethan is tested and upon testing explosive confrontations occur.

Cast & Crew

In this case Egerton’s interpretation of Ethan Kopek allows those witnessing to see a struggling TSA agent which allows the actor and actress to show a dynamic display of acting.

Jason Bateman as The Traveler: Bateman goes into the role of the villain in this case and adds sepals to the already uncanny character.

Sofia Carson as Nora Parisi: A partner to Ethan it is Carson who is in charge of adding emotions to the narrative.

Danielle Deadwyler as Elena Cole: Deadwyler is also seen portraying a character of an LAPD detective who is also part of the events happening, thus expanding the fascinating cast of the film.

The film is in the hands of Jaume Collet-Serra who seems to have a great skill in developing snippets of thrill in the movie. The storyline for the film was written by T.J. Fixman who was complemented by Michael Green in regard to action and character development in the screenplay.

Critical Reception

“Carry-On” has been giving acceptable ratings although getting reviews from critics. According to the rating system provided on Metacritic, critics’ feedback for the film can be characterized as mostly positive. For critics, there is some appreciation for movies that manages to thrill them and this film from its trailer seems to be one and according to The Film Stage review, the film successfully “keeps you on the edge of your seat with its myriad turns, always being sure to ground itself in realistic characters.”

Audience reactions about this particular movie have been diverse, there are focuses about the plots and the performance which some of the audience loved but some rather would criticize its plausibility. When looking at most of the critic reviews from Rotten Tomatoes there are huge discrepancies with some saying the film was “stupid” and the acting was dreadful while others said it was a “pulse-pounding action thriller.”

Conclusion

“Carry-On” portrays yet again, how simple action thrillers that revolve around a limited number of locations can be amazing. The movie is really good owing to great performances by Egerton, Bateman and most importantly what is expected from the director. Jaume Collet-Serra has once again been able to do what he does best which is build up suspense, making Carry-On a film that could be looked forward to from its inception.

While some reviewers point out the plausibility issues, the work never fails to captivate the viewer and entertain him or her. As fans of the genre anticipating conflict layered on top of character development, “Carry-On” would be a great movie for them to watch.
